Apex residents have new options for affordable housing this week following the dedication ceremony for White Oak Townhomes. Dozens of neighbors, local leaders, and project partners were on hand to celebrate the availability of 30 new residential units located on Dominion Crest Drive.
Of the new homes, 15 three-bedroom, 2.5-bath units will be sold at market value and 15 will be designated for residents making 80% or less of the area median income. The White Oak campus development also includes a daycare, medical clinic, food pantry, and senior activities center onsite. Plans are in the works for 60 new units of affordable rental housing for seniors, a $20 million project.
The townhomes project was developed by the White Oak Foundation, a community program of the White Oak Missionary Baptist Church which. Since 1999, the foundation has addressed educational, socio-economic, housing, and professional needs of community members of all ages. The foundation’s mission is to keep families in their homes, ensure food security, offer crisis assistance, and provide scholarships and education to renters and homebuyers.
“The official opening of White Oak Townhomes is a special moment for our organization and for the community,” said the foundation’s Executive Director, Rev. Charles R. Tyner, Sr. at Wednesday’s dedication ceremony. “The foundation is deeply grateful for the ongoing support we have received from members of White Oak Missionary Baptist Church, our donors and partners, and our local civic leadership—we look forward to continuing on this journey to make a positive difference.”
Partners on the project include North State Bank, which funded the development of the White Oak Townhomes, the town of Cary which provided gap financing, Wake Tech, nonprofit The Carying Place, and the town of Apex. Apex has partnered with the White Oak Foundation to achieve the town’s goals of adding more affordable housing through the foundation’s Building Hope Through Housing initiative.
“On behalf of the Town of Apex, I want to congratulate the White Oak Foundation on its continued leadership in advancing workforce housing and strengthening our region,” said Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert. “This is about more than housing affordability—it represents stability, dignity and long-term community impact. White Oak Foundation has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to service that will impact our communities for decades. We are grateful for their partnership and proud to celebrate this important milestone.”
