Look ahead with this monthly feature of Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Holly Springs, and Western Wake County events. Events are selected for a mix of geography, price points, and interests with a focus on community.
🐣 Peeps in the Park (April 2):Find the Peeps in Morrisville Community Park from 5-7 p.m. on a Thursday night. Three mini golden coins will also be hidden during the event, and the finder gets a prize egg. Besides the scavenger hunt, there will be inflatables, face painting, and three food trucks with sweet treats.
🚣♀️ Bands Bites Boats (April 3): The monthly Friday night series at Bond Park Boathouse kicks off in April with live music, after-hours boat rentals, and food trucks. Enjoy it from Bond Lake or bring your own lawn chair, 5-7 p.m. April’s band is Brian & Cheyenne, food trucks are Mr. Puebla Tacos and Hot Chix Chicken and Pancakes, and the beer vendor is Fortnight Brewing Company. Free to attend.
🐇 Easter brunch (April 5): Some reservations remain for special menus at different restaurants in Western Wake for Easter Sunday, but act fast.
☕ Local News Day with The Line (April 9): NC News Cafes will be happening across the state on April 9 to mark the inaugural Local News Day. The events are rooted in a shared goal: strengthening trust, deepening relationships, and building a more responsive local news ecosystem. The Line team will be at The Williams House in Downtown Cary from 9:30-11 a.m. (drop in anytime).
🐶 Paint Your Pet Workshop (April 9): Learn to paint your fur baby with artist Heather Eck at a private painting class at Adventures in Bloom in Apex. They have all of the supplies with your $67 ticket, and no experience is necessary for the step-by-step workshop. 6:30-8 p.m.
📽️ Downtown Cary Park: “The Princess and the Frog” (April 10):A free showing of the Disney movie will be at the Great Lawn at the Downtown Cary Park. Prescreening activities will be 6-7:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at sunset (about 7:45 p.m.). Bring your own picnic blanket or lawn chairs. Food trucks will be on site.
🐖 Peak City Pig Fest (April 10-11):Organized by the Apex Sunrise Rotary Club, this two-day event includes Kansas City Barbecue Society judges deliberating on championship ‘cue, a Friday night beer garden, and live music. It’s free to attend, but proceeds from food and drink at the barbecue festival in Apex benefit NeighborUp. Attend 5-10 p.m. April 10 and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. April 11 at the parking lot of Apex Town Hall.
🧀 Pimento Cheese Festival (April 11):The Cary festival dedicated to the Southern food item is a wildly popular affair. From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in Downtown Cary Park, creative food vendors and chefs share their take on pimento cheese. Activities this year include live music, a golf simulator tournament, the Puppy Cup with TST and Peak Lab Rescue, and more.
🎨 Chalk of the Town (April 11):This Holly Springs community art event encourages people of all skill levels to show their chalk art skills (Chalk Artist Applications open until April 3). View the artworks 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. This year’s festival will add an art market.
🎶 On the Steps: Shana Tucker (April 15): An acoustic show “in the round” with Vocalist, Cellist, and Storyteller, Shana Tucker in a small, 100-seat setting at the Halle Cultural Arts Center in Apex. Show at 7:30 p.m., tickets $35, but buy tickets in advance so you don’t miss out.
🧑🍳 Date Night Cooking Class (April 17): Learn to cook a menu of spring to summer flavors at Downtown Cary’s Home for Entertaining in a class for two. 6-8:30 p.m., the $240 for two comes with a bottle of wine to share.
📽️ Morrisville Movie in the Park (April 17):A free movie in the park, the live action “Lilo & Stitch,” will be shown at dark at Morrisville Community Park, 8-10 p.m.
🤠 Fest in the West (April 18): It’s all about West Cary at Fest in the West. From 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Mills Park, performances will be on two stages. Interactive exhibits and vendors include a free petting zoo, a robotics area, an insects exhibit from the Museum of Life and Science, and tons of games for kids of all ages.
🌎 Earth Day at Fenton (April 22):This event has activities for all ages at Fenton Square in Cary. Starting at 4 p.m., activities include a sustainable craft station from Durham Scrap Exchange, and the Buddha Bee Apiary table will talk about the Fenton Bees. The North Carolina Children’s Museum’s STEM Mobile Museum will be on hand 4-6 p.m., and YogaSix will hold a $5.36 grounding yoga class at 6 p.m. “The Bee Movie” will be shown outdoors at 7 p.m. While you’re there, you can drop off old electronics to be recycled and pick up free wildflower seed packets.
🎨 Spring Daze Arts & Crafts Festival (April 25): More than 170 North Carolina artists will show their wares at the Cary festival at Bond Park, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Besides perusing artworks, there are 16 food vendors, plus North Carolina beer and cider for purchase. Performances from different artistic groups will be held on three stages and roaming among the festival goers. Local groups will host activities in the Community Cove, and activities for kids include the Kid Collectors Market.
🌷 SpringsFest (April 25): Explore 150+ vendor booths, an expanded Kids Zone, a car show, and a hot dog eating contest, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Downtown Holly Springs. It’s the fifth year of the event from the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce.
🌎 EarthFest Apex (April 25):This year’s festival, 12-4 p.m. at the Town Hall Campus in Apex, is focused on sustainable fashion. That includes puzzle and clothing swaps, a fashion show with clothing from Dorcas Ministries Thrift Store, and pollinator and plant installations.
🛍️ Love Local Festival Apex (April 26):Support local all in one place on an afternoon in Apex. Small businesses in Apex, both downtown and non-downtown businesses, will showcase their offerings. 11 a.m.-4 p.m., 220 N Salem Street, Apex.
🐦⬛ Learn to Play Wingspan (April 27): Gather Goods Co. in Downtown Cary is hosting a workshop on how to play the board game Wingspan, “a cozy strategy game,” 6-8 p.m. on a Monday night. $45.
🍷 Corks & Crafts: Embroidered Pendant (April 28): Design and make wearable art at Chatham Street Wine Market in Downtown Cary. Your $50 ticket comes with materials and a glass of wine for 21 and older. 5:30-7:30 p.m.
