Events are selected for a mix of geography, price points, and interests, with a focus on community. This post is updated with new events and event details throughout the month. 

🎶 Waverly Place Summer Music Series (Wednesdays starting June 3): The Cary shopping center music series will host free live music on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m. throughout the month of June. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. 

  • Some of the restaurants on site offer to-go options, and wine and beer will be available for purchase. 
  • Bands include Bounce Party Band (June 3), Island Time Band (June 10), The Embers (June 17), and Heads Up Penny (June 24). More info here.

📽️ Downtown Cary Park: “Back to the Future” (June 5): A free showing of the 1985 classic movie will be at the Great Lawn at the Downtown Cary Park. Lawn seating setup (BYO blankets and chairs) starts at 5 p.m. with pre-screening activities starting at 6 p.m. The movie will begin at sunset. Food trucks will be on site.

🚣‍♀️ Bands Bites Boats (June 5): The monthly Friday night series at Cary’s Bond Park Boathouse continues with live music, after-hours boat rentals, and food trucks. Enjoy it from Bond Lake or bring your own lawn chair, 6-8 p.m. June. 

  • June’s band is LaureNicole Duo, food trucks are Super Spuds and Corner Boys BBQ, and the beer vendor is Fortnight Brewing Company. Free to attend. 

🏳️‍🌈 Morrisville Music in the Park: Pride Celebration (June 5): Enjoy live music from the band 22 Strings at Morrisville’s Indian Creek Trailhead, 101 Town Hall Drive, on a Friday night. The event is 6-8:30 p.m. June 5, with Drag Bingo and Party in a Pita food truck.

🎨 SuperFun Saturday (June 6): Kids ages 4-12 meet at the Halle Cultural Arts Center in Apex for free arts and crafts activities with their caregivers. 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., no registration required. 

📽️ North Carolina Indian and South Asian Film Festival (June 6): This event beginning at 1 p.m. at The Cary Theater includes screenings of indie films from South Asian filmmakers and non-South Asian filmmakers “whose work features South Asians themes or actors.” The event includes conversations with directors, actors, and filmmakers.

🎶📽️ Rhythm & Reels (June 6 and June 13): Spend Saturday evening at Apex Nature Park Amphitheatre with live music and movies. June’s lineup includes a concert by psychedelic power pop fusion band Sweet Dream on June 6 at 7 p.m. and a showing of “Freakier Friday” on June 13 at dusk. 

📽️ The Cary Theater’s Summer Family Series, (Sundays beginning June 7): On Sundays at noon through August, the theater shows retro movies on the big screen in Downtown Cary. The movies are generally rated G or PG. In June, the theater will show: 

  • “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (June 7)
  • “The Wiz” (June 14) 
  • “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” (June 21)
  • The Hayley Mills version of “The Parent Trap” (June 28)

🥂 Girls Night Out at Home For Entertaining (June 10): The Downtown Cary shop opens its back patio for a ladies’ night out on one Wednesday night per month, including free s’mores, wine for purchase, and pop-ups. From 6 to 8 p.m. June 10, children’s boutique Ruby James will also be on site. If you register, you can play a game of mahjong with Cary Mahjong Club, too.

📚 Little Fentonians Book Bonanza (June 11): This free event for children in Fenton Square, 21 Fenton Main Street, Cary, includes live storytelling and a free picture book to take home. 10 a.m.-12 p.m., register in advance so there are enough books for all.

🏳️‍🌈 PRIDE in the Park (June 13): Pride Month, typically held in June, celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. At PRIDE in the Park, Downtown Cary Park activities start with themed crafts in the Nest Pavilion 4-8 p.m. The Pride Night Market, organized by The Night Market Co., will have goods for sale by “LGBTQ+ artisans and allies” from 5-10 p.m. Then, from 7:30-10 p.m., there will be a Pride-themed Silent Disco. 

🎉 Holly Springs Juneteenth Celebration (June 13): The Saturday before Juneteenth, which is June 19, the town of Holly Springs and the Holly Springs MLK Committee will hold an event from 5 to 8 p.m. at Parrish Womble Park, 1201 Grigsby Avenue. Vendors, a kids zone, live music, and performances will be included.

  • Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when all previously enslaved Black people in the last state, Texas, heard federal orders of freedom. 

🎉 Morrisville Music in the Park: Juneteenth Celebration (June 19): Enjoy live music from the band Sahara Reggae Band at Morrisville’s Indian Creek Trailhead, 101 Town Hall Drive, on a Friday night, commemorating Juneteenth. The event is 6-8:30 p.m. June 19, with Trivia and DeeVine Dogs food truck.

🎉 Juneteenth in the Peak (June 20): The free community festival in Apex, founded in 2021 by T.J. Evans and Mayor Jacques Gilbert, includes live performances, family activities, history exhibits, food trucks, and other vendors. 1-8 p.m. at the Apex Town Hall Campus, 73 Hunter St.

🎉 Juneteenth Celebration in Cary (June 20): A Juneteenth Celebration curated by Historian Darrell Stover will be held 4-9:30 p.m. in the Downtown Cary Park on June 20. The event will honor “expression, resilience, and joy through live performances and moments that invite everyone to join in.” See the full schedule.

🎶 CaryLive with Abraham Alexander (June 27): The musician, songwriter, and guitarist will perform at Downtown Cary Park’s free concert series, 7:30-9:30 p.m. June 27 at the Great Lawn.
